Catherine Ficklin Stephens’ Time at F.S.T.C

About Catherine’s Life

Catherine Ficklin was born in August 1911 to Dorsey Ficklin and Edith Armstrong Ficklin. She had a younger brother named Dorsey Ficklin, Jr.  She attended high school in Aberdeen, Maryland.

Life at F.S.T.C.

Following her graduation from high school, Catherine Ficklin enrolled in the Fredericksburg State Teachers College, which she would attend for three years. She attended school performances and events throughout her time at the college, such as the Mayday Festival and a camping trip to Blue Ridge. She was also involved in the Young Women’s Christian Association and worked in the school library. She graduated in 1930.

Teaching and After F.S.T.C.

After graduating, she moved to Wicomico Church, where she taught at Wicomico School for 2 years. Catherine married John Stephens in 1934 and they had three children: John R., Jr., Jane Lyell S. Ayers Drummond, and Catherine. John Stephens passed away February 1983 and Catherine Stephens passed away in November 1989.
